Client
Project
Type: Bridge, length 2145 m (7037 ft.)
Typical Span: 70 m
Deck width: 38,2 m (16 m with MSS + 2x11,1 m with cantilever machine) | 125 ft (52 ft. with MSS + 2x36 ft. with cantilever machine)
Typical Cross Section: Box
Equipment features
Model: MSS M1-70-S
Construction Type: In situ (In Place)
Type: Overhead MSS
OPS System: Integrated
Performance: 14-day cycles
Challenges
• Construction on water; the equipment to be used would have to be autonomous and the supply of materials have to be done using the previously built deck
• Large and heavy deck, with complex geometry
• Tight radius of curvature on plan and variable and accentuated longitudinal inclination
• Intersections of the deck with access ramps
• Quick execution capacity
Solutions
• Equipment wholly autonomous of auxiliary means, lifting the supports by own overhead cranes
• M1-70-S with OPS System allows deformation control
• Deck load control during launching operation
• Deck extension using cantilever machine
• Complete opening of the formwork
Results
• Construction Period: 88 weeks (including intermediate disassembly and assembly)
• High Safety levels during construction
• Higher construction quality due to the reduction and control of deflections
• OPS system allowed the cast of the box in two phases, without any danger of cracking
• Continuous construction with less joints – advantage in a harsh environment (high temperatures & salinity)
